STUDY: This Midwestern Chain Boasts The Healthiest Fast Food Burgers
When it comes to fast food burgers, one chain not only 'welcomes you to delicious,' it also boasts the healthiest hamburgers according to PlushCare.
"We defined a set of products (cheeseburger, regular fries, etc.) and identified the closest possible product at 24 leading U.S. fast-food chains. Using each chain’s nutritional menu, we compared the Calories (Kj), Sugar (g), Saturated Fat (g), and Sodium (mg) values for all the available products. We scored them according to the Department of Health's nutrient profiling method. Finally, we added up each product’s total “unhealthiness score” at each fast-food chain and ranked them across the restaurants."
The most UNhealthy burger in the study came from Five Guys. The chain's cheeseburger posted an 'unhealthiness score' of 50, which was eight points better than second-worst Whataburger's Jalapeno and Cheese burger.
The third least healthy burger came from Smash Burger, with Carl's Jr., Sonic, Wendy's, Shake Shack, Fatburger, Steak 'n Shake and In-N-Out rounding out the bottom ten, respectively.
The top dog burger? Well, it came from Wisconsin's own Culver's! With an 'unhealthiness score' of 17, it snuck past #2 McDonald's (yeah, I was shocked too), with the difference being a better sodium score.
The basic Burger King burger ranked #3 with a score of 18, followed by fourth place Jack In The Box and fifth place A&W with the Papa Burger.
Of note, Minnesota's own Dairy Queen ranked as the sixth-healthiest burger in the study.
