When it comes to enjoying the winter season, we Minnesotans will do just about anything to make it fun. That includes taking a bar stool, attaching a pair of skis to it and going down a hill.

The "sport" is called Barstool Racing and it's becoming a popular Minnesota activity. And when you watch the video, you can see why. Just about anyone can do it, it's a good reason to get together with family and friends and it's fun to build your own sled.

If you want to get in on all this fun at the Barstool Ski Races happens January 26th at the Vulcan Snow Park in the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

The website says there are 3 categories you can enter:

  • Regular Division – Be the first rider in your heat to cross the finish line at the bottom of the slope. Trophies and cash prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
  • Powder Puff Division – Both the rider and the pusher must be female. Trophies and cash prize are awarded to the 1st place team only. Otherwise, this division is identical to the Regular Division.
  • Open Class Division – Anything goes! If you can sit on it and it will go down the hill, you can race it. The only sled requirements are that it must be powered by gravity only and must be on skis. The crazier, the better! Trophies and cash prize are awarded to the 1st place team.

If it sounds like a good time to you (and it does to me), get a couple of friends together and get to building your barstool ski/sled. Don't forget to register by January 20th. All the info is here.
