Think You Can Fly Super Cheap out of MSP on Southwest – Maybe Not
When you are flying somewhere wihether it's for a vacation or a trip for work, you still want to get the best deal possible, right? Sun Country was usually a go-to until their baggage fees started to skyrocket. Spirit Airlines will charge you for using the bathroom on the aircraft. That's an exaggeration, but it seems like it. They really do nickle and dime you for everything. So Southwest was kind of the go-to for cheap flights. Or, at least it was.

Southwest has just announced that they will start some new charging systems.
Calling it the end of free checked bags, no more "wanna get away" super-low fares. Now there will be "basic ecomony" charges. This is in keeping with other airlines, but Southwest has been the last to jump on that bandwagon.
The reason that airlines have the "basic" economy option is so that passengers can opt for that low(er) fare, but it also gives the airline an opportunity to charge passengers for an upgrade. And that upgrade could be anything from the seat location in the row, to the seat location on the aircraft. Also the amenities that you are offered.
From Bring Me the News:
Apparently these changes in charges will be implemented on May 28th.
Oh, and credits that used to not ever expire will now have to be used within a year. Oh, and that's only if you weren't flying basic economy. If you were, and you got a flight credit for whatever reason, the basic economy credits need to be used within 6 months.
So, if you are planning on flying somewhere cheap, better book your flight now. Because after May 28th, you will be paying a lot more on Southwest Airlines.
