1. St. Cloud

You could stay right here in St. Cloud for a romantic day by the Mississippi River. The Pioneer Place offers romantic Valentine’s Day dinner theater in a beautiful historic setting, and many other area theaters, including the Paramount Theatre and the Cathedral High School Performing Arts Center, offer love-themed February shows sure to put you in a romantic frame of mind. For dinner call ahead and make a reservation at Anton’s, make sure you request one of their stagecoach booths. The stagecoach booth looks like old-fashioned wagon and it’s a little more private so it’s a perfect for an intimate setting for Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart.

2. St. Paul

St. Paul’s Wells Fargo WinterSkate would be a perfect day date that is if you can ice skate. Think of skating around, holding hands, and laughing with your Valentine. For a romantic Valentine’s date, check out a show at the Ordway Center, which often offers opera, ballet, and orchestral performances. They have a lot of interesting dining options in the beautiful historical downtown area.

3. Afton

Afton is a beautiful setting along the St. Croix River and old charming buildings. Selma’s Ice Cream Parlour, the oldest ice cream shop in Minnesota ( if you are an ice cream lover like me), and check out the Swirl Wine Club at night.  Check out a four-course Sweetheart Wine Dinner at The Historic Afton House Inn. It’s a romantic setting with great food to the huge windows with a gorgeous view.

4. Two Harbors

 Two Harbors just screams romance. Whether you want to spend most of your time snuggled up enjoying the beautiful views of Lake Superior or get out and do some nature hiking or time outdoors along the shore. You could bring your snowmobile or rent a snowmobile from Beaver Bay Sport Shop or Sawtooth Outfitters, or hike the Taconite State Trail. For dinner check out the Ledge Rock Grille for a sophisticated three-course Valentine’s dinner with wine or champagne and yummy desserts.

5. Thief River Falls

This place is perfect for a Valentine’s Day vacation.  Rent sleds, ice skates, or skis and enjoy. At Hartz Park you could go sledding with the beautiful view of the river. After the sun sets, if you are into ice skating you can go to Northrup Park.  Two Fools Winery is a must for wine lovers. They feature their specialty wines:  rhubarb, berries, and cold-hardy grape varieties. Before you call it a night you can swing by The Candy Store and get some Valentine’s Day chocolates.

6. Minneapolis

Wear a warm jacket and cuddle up and enjoy historic Minneapolis with a carriage ride around downtown from The Hitching Company. The 30-minute ride takes you past Minneapolis’s most famous landmarks while you cuddle underneath the provided carriage rugs. Enjoy a Valentine’s dinner and  wine at the Kenwood in Minneapolis’s beautiful Lake of the Isles district, or go for the fantastic five-course Valentine’s feast with an ice cold beer at the Republic. If you are in the need for entertainment, take in a show at the Dakota. You can enjoy a Valentine’s dinner while enjoying a romantic show at the musical theater.

7. Grand Marais

Are you up for some exploring? Try it in this winter wonderland, from snowshoeing adventures to see Minnesota’s highest waterfall to ice fishing on Lake Superior. While enjoying the outdoors you may work an appetite on Gunflint trails, and then head to one of the fabulous eateries on Grand Marais Harbor for a delicious Valentine’s dinner with a view. Check out this casual and cozy dining experience at Crooked Spoon Cafe, and start your evening with a glass of wine or fabulous local craft beer in their glass-enclosed rooftop bar. Sunset is the best time for the most spectacular view.
