WAITE PARK -- A local business specializing in inflatables for kids is open under new ownership and a new name.

Granite City Jump is located at 79 3rd Street N.E. in the space formerly occupied by Jump City Indoor & Inflatable Rentals. It offers inflatable equipment, along with arcade-style video games and space for birthday parties and events.

Marcia Prescott of Princeton, along with sons Caleb and Jake Brander, signed a lease for the space on November 6 after discussing it for about a month. Prescott, a former special education teacher and current operator of an adult foster home, has wanted to operate a kid-centered business for a long time.

"I've dreamed of owning a place where kids could just be free and have fun. This opportunity arose and I was very interested. So, I talked to my sons and they said, 'yes! let's do it."

Prescott purchased bounce equipment formerly owned by Jump City and plans to add more in coming months. She says, right now, she's focused on learning more about her customers and their interests.

"We're going to try to have minimal food, so people don't always have to leave to eat lunch or dinner. So, like hot dogs or pizza. And we're talking about being more accessible - we'd like to gear (Granite City Jump) toward daycare centers and churches, and have more group parties."

Prescott says they're hoping to offer theme nights and costume parties for younger children. Older kids will have access to more video games along with laser tag on certain nights.
