After a Crazy Few Days, Twins Get Deal Done
The BIG trade between the Twins, Dodgers and Red Sox was the big talker last week. It was going to happen...and then it wasn't...and then it was 'hold on a second, maybe'.
Well, it ended up happening. After the Red Sox wanted more and backed out of the 3-team trade deal (because they heard everyone say WTH are you doing?), the teams worked it all out. And in the end, Twins got some bonus money out of it.
So it's all good, the Twins basically stood their ground and got the Maeda/Graterol deal they wanted done, so now it's time to move on to our 'boys of summer' that will be starting very soon.
The Minnesota Twins pitchers and catchers report this Wednesday, with the rest of the players reporting the following Monday. Spring Training games start February 22nd.
There's a lot to be excited about for this team in 2020. A team that surprised a lot of people last year, winning 101 games and setting the MLB single-season home run record. Here's a few things I'm looking forward to this year:
Josh Donaldson: The biggest free-agent signing in team history is a player that will not only improve the 3rd base position defensively but provide more power to an already impressive lineup.
The Maeda Trade: This might not excite some fans but I liked this move. I think he can be a good middle rotation guy. He also adds depth and gives the team some breathing room in case of injuries to other players.
2020 And Beyond: Not only am I excited for this season but for the future as well. This team is built to be good for years. Many players are under contract for the next three to five years. Others are under team control for the same. Then there's the farm system which is considered one of the best in baseball. Add a couple more pitching pieces next season and the future looks bright.
