August is just about over, but if you or someone you know has law enforcement experience and is considering a career change, the Minnesota State Patrol wants to hear from you. Much of this month, the State Patrol has utilized their “X” or twitter account to promote they’re hiring for their Traditional Program.

The Traditional Program is as I said before for those who have experience in Law Enforcement and are currently Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board license eligible or will be eligible before Minnesota State Patrol Academy Graduation on April 16th, 2026.

The goals for a Minnesota State Trooper are to:

  • Create travel on the state's roadways
  • Investigate and reconstruct accident scenes
  • Help conduct flight patrols
  • Assist with search and rescue missions
  • Investigate vehicle crimes
  • Serve as a part of Minnesota's Homeland Security Measures
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies when needed

Upcoming graduates will join the already 600 state troopers who currently help patrol our roadways and these will be full-time positions.

The application process for the Traditional Program with the Minnesota State Patrol ends on August 31st. From there, potential candidates will be participating in the physical fitness tests and interviews.

The timeline from that point is that background checks will be performed on candidates who pass the physical fitness test and interviews will be conducted between September 10th and November 4th.

Conditional offers will be made on November 17th. If a candidate is approved to move along to the next step in the process, there will be medical and phycological exams performed between November 19th and December 12th. After that, final offers will be issued on December 17th, and orientation will be held right before Christmas on December 22nd.

The next Minnesota State Trooper Academy will begin on January 12th, with completion on April 16th.
