Most of us have had to adjust our spending over the last couple of years. Things that we routinely bought before may have been cut from the shopping list because everything is costing more.

Where we shop has also become an adjustment as well. It was reported earlier this year that the average American visits 3 to 4 different stores to complete their grocery shopping needs.  

But there may be a shift happening around us that we didn’t even realize. The Morning Brew shared a report from Bloomberg that says Wal-Mart is reporting that they have been attracting more and more customers whose income exceeds $100,000 per year. The retailer says their 3rd quarter numbers exceeded their expectations and their end of the year numbers will likely go up as well.

They made an effort at offering products with higher quality at an affordable price, and that effort has had a positive impact. Reports say that toys and electronic products are pacing well in sales already. 

Wal-Mart has always positioned themselves as a place that would not break your budget, but in the past offered a lower-end caliber in electronics and home good products.

That’s a thing of the past as they have begun to stock more brand name items that people are familiar with, especially in the electronics department.

Another area that Wal-Mart made inroads to a positive 3rd quarter was by offering premium grocery products that rival stores more upscale grocery chains.  

Wal-Mart also took away from the stronghold that Amazon has had on the consumer base by offering a comparable ordering options to Amazon. They also found a way to reduce prices in the process.

Some people don’t like to shop at Wal-Mart because sometimes there can be so many people in there it’s a bit hectic, but it appears that if the savings and selection are strong enough, we’ll dive into and keep swimming in the Wal-Mart waters.
