OH BOY! For those who don’t like colder weather, the forecast for this weekend and next week is a welcome change. When you start celebrating the fact that the overnight low stays above zero is a sure sign that we’ve battled some awfully cold weather lately.

My wife was getting her hair cut this week and the lady working with her said she was glad warmer weather was coming, but to not get too comfortable because of the Minnesota Rollercoaster.

If you don’t know, my wife and I moved here from North Carolina in 2023, and the winter from that year into 2024 doesn’t count according to most Minnesotans.

This year has been more normal according to natives to the state.

Which leads back to the Minnesota Rollercoaster I mentioned. What that means is, we’re going to see warmer temps but that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods from having more winter weather.

I reached out to Cara Foster from Weatherology, she’s the morning meteorologist for our radio stations, and asked her about this phenomenon.

“I don’t think the cool downs will be as bad as they were this week” Cara replied “but some below average temperatures are still on the table throughout the coming weeks” she added.

The lady cutting my wife's hair warned of the threat of at least one more good snow before it’s all said and done, which adds more to the context of what Cara is saying.

Cara says that our average high will likely rise quickly this time of year, so a cool down could mean that a below average temp is in the lower 20’s.

There’s light at the end of the winter tunnel, but we shouldn’t begin to retire our winter gear for the season just quite yet. Make sure your hands and feet stay inside the ride as we begin to ride the Minnesota Rollercoaster.
