I love road trips, seriously LOVE THEM. Right now my wife and I are planning a trip next summer that will take us around the Great Lakes, and up through Canada. As we were looking at the different routes that someone could take to accomplish a trip like this we kept coming back to driving through Michigan, and the Mackinac Bridge. Did you know if you aren't a big bridge fan, someone will take your car across for you?

According to the Mackinac Bridge Authority website:

Drivers who do not feel comfortable driving across the Mackinac Bridge can have staff from the Mackinac Bridge drive their vehicle.  Drivers must be 18 years of age or older. The required liability waiver has been updated, and staff will complete a checklist of several items the customer must agree to, including allowing for adjustments of mirrors and the driver’s seat, using a dash camera to record the inside of the vehicle during the crossing, keeping any animals in the vehicle restrained, having all occupants wear a mask covering their nose and mouth, and allowing the vehicle to be cleaned before crossing.

Having someone drive you over the bridge will cost you $10, and the toll, but if you hate long bridges, and or driving in really windy conditions, it's well worth the peace of mind, knowing you've got someone familiar with the bridge driving across.

If you are coming from the south, pull to the side just after the last exit and call 906 643-7600 to request a driver. There is a $10 charge for the service in addition to the normal fare. Coming from the north, just tell the toll collector.

Knowing this might keep everyone in vacation mode a little bit longer.
