So we have all seen traffic lights not working from time to time in the St. Cloud area.  When that happens, it turns into a 4 way stop.  You take turns going around in a circle, so to speak counter clockwise, as you yield to your right.  Otherwise, it's whoever got there first gets to go next if there are only a couple of cars there.

CURRENT 4 WAY STOP INSTEAD OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN ST. CLOUD

If you haven't been across the University bridge up to Killian Blvd., we have that 4 way stop situation right now.  It's usually not a crazy busy intersection during the winter months.  During the summer it is much busier because of the Clemons/Munsinger Gardens.  But right now, you generally have just a few cars at one time at the interesection.

SITUATION ON THE EAST SIDE OF ST CLOUD

I was coming back from lunch today on University, going to make a left turn onto Killian.  This person across from me was going straight through the intersection, as she had no signal to turn right or left, so I assumed, and I was right.  But here's the thing.  They were there before me, and before a someone who was on the South side of Killian planning a left turn onto University.  The person planning to go straight through the intersection waved that person through, then tried to wave me through.  Also - there were a couple of cars behind them.  None behind me.  I finally waved them to go through because "what are you doing"??  If you were just trying to be nice, what about the people behind you waiting for you to go?  I'm sure they weren't thrilled with the "wave everyone through practice".

BEFORE YOU TRY THE "MINNESOTA NICE" CONCEPT - CHECK YOUR SURROUNDINGS

I'm sure they were just trying to be nice, but sometimes you need to make sure there aren't people behind you that you wind up holding up because of your "Minnesota Nice" practice.  It's not nice for everyone.
