In the 1992 comedy Home Alone 2, ten-year-old Kevin McCallister mistakenly boards a flight to New York while his parents get on the correct flight, which is headed to Florida. Chaos ensues.

When you hear how much his New York City adventure would cost in 2025 dollars, you'll understand why having that travel voucher would have come in handy!

Kevin stays at The Plaza Hotel, which he heard about while watching a television game show. Using his trusty TalkBoy recorder, he disguises his voice on the phone to reserve a room at a cost of $1,100 per night.

HOW MUCH WOULD KEVIN'S HOTEL ROOM COST IN 2025

iSelect dug into the numbers and found that the same hotel room that cost $1,100 in 1992 would cost $6,244 in 2025 dollars, which is a cool 468% increase.

HOW MUCH DID THE ROOM SERVICE COST IN HOME ALONE 2

While in the massive suite, Kevin indulges in a massive room service meal that cost about $967.40 in 1992.

That very same feast would now cost about $2,333.89. At an increase of 131%, that better be some good room service! Heck, the sundae alone jumped from $18 in 1992 to $24 today!

WOULD THE MCCALLISTERS HAVE BENEFITTED FROM TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Probably not. While travel insurance may have covered Kevin's lost luggage per iSelect, essentially nothing else would have been covered. As it turns out, insurance companies are not huge fans of kids running up charges on stolen credit cards!

Had Kevin chosen a more reasonable hotel to stay in, he may have been covered by insurance. In this case, a luxury suite claim is probably going to be denied by the McCallister's insurance.
