Even during the coldest days of the winter, I saw at least one person riding an electric bike. As I’ve been saying all winter, layers are your friend, and for those folks who used electric bikes this winter, that would be an understatement.

There is no denying that electric bikes have become very popular over the last few years. As the warmer weather gets closer to us, we’ll see more evidence of that fact.

If you have an electric bike, or you’re considering getting one, here’s something you should know. One of these bikes has been recalled due to a defect that could cause a crash.

Elektra Electric Bikes has recalled over 900 of their Navigator GO bikes from 2021 and 2022, and the Ace of Spades bikes from 2019,2021 and 2022.

The problem is with the back fender that fits over the back tire. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says that back fender can come loose while the bike is in motion which can cause the fender to come in contact with the tire which creates the crash hazard.

The Navigator Go bikes in question came in a blue color with ocean scenes on them, while the Ace of Spades were black with gold accents.

There have only been two reported accidents to this point, but one of those caused the rider to sustain a broken shinbone and meniscus tear.

Owners of these bikes should stop using them immediately and contact an authorized Trek or Elektra dealer to schedule the repair so this bike can continued to be used safely.
