Thanks to a high volunteer rate and a low separation/divorce rate, Minnesota once again ranks among the happiest states in the country.

Only 44% of Americans say they are 'very satisfied' with their lives due to things like the rising cost of living and record-high economic uncertainty.

As it turns out, geography may play a role in an individual's happiness, according to WalletHub. The financial website set out to find the 'Happiest States in America' with its recent study.

ELEMENTS OF HAPPINESS

“In addition to pursuing your passions, having a good work-life balance and maintaining an emotional support network, another key way to boost your happiness is living in the right place," said WalletHub's Chip Lupo. "The happiest states are those that provide above-average quality of life in a wide variety of areas, from strong state economies and high quality physical and mental health care to adequate amounts of leisure time and good weather.”

The happiest state in the country is, perhaps not surprisingly, Hawaii, followed by Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey and Connecticut, respectively.
