Dust off the record player and prepare to expand your collection -- Record Store Day is this Saturday April 22!

Every year since 2008, record stores and vinyl enthusiasts alike have celebrated Record Store Day on a Saturday in April. This year, that Saturday is April 22. Record stores around the country and world -- every continent but Antarctica -- throw block parties, concerts, and festivals and sell, give away and celebrate vinyl records.

On April 19, 2008 the first ever Record Store Day was held. Metallica -- in a show of support -- made an appearance at the event in San Francisco, meeting and greeting fans. Over the past nine years, the event has grown, even turning into a recognized holiday in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Boise, Charleston, Las Vegas and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

City Pages features a list of events scheduled for this Saturday at record stores in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Hastings and Golden Valley. St. Cloud does have a record store -- Uff Da Records at 80 33rd Ave S. No word on whether they will be hosting an event or not.

Whether you make it out to an even or just dust off the 'ol record player, find your own way to celebrate Record Store Day this Saturday!

What was the first record (vinyl) you ever owned?

Speaking of records and music, there's definitely a reason we're keeping Adam off Sports Radio in the future...
