Minnesotans Share Their Frosty Weekend Photos
It was a beautiful, frosty New Years weekend around Minnesota.
Many Minnesotans woke up Saturday morning to find a stunning layer of sparkling hoar frost that had settled overnight. The bright sun and clear skies made for a particularly magical scene, turning frost-covered trees into giants of shimmering diamonds and making for idealistic wintry scenes around the state.
Not failing to pass up the opportunity for a photo, some Minnesotans shared their pics on the Minnesota thread of online discussion forum Reddit. Reddit user u/alouhela shared a digitally altered mirror image of hoar frost taken in Carlton, Minneosta.
A drone flyer in Fergus Falls shared the photo above of frosted trees around the Regional Treatment Center.
According to Britannica, hoar frost is described as "deposit of ice crystals on objects exposed to the free air, such as grass blades, tree branches, or leaves. It is formed by direct condensation of water vapour to ice at temperatures below freezing and occurs when air is brought to its frost point by cooling."
