How Did Everyone Forget This Classic Minnesota-Filmed Movie?!
Unlike my kids, who have more streaming choices and video game options than I could have ever dreamed of, I was forced to watch whatever was on TV at a given time if I wanted to veg-out in front of the tube.
CLASSIC CABLE MOVIES OF THE 90s
One of those movies that ALWAYS seemed to be on cable (along with The Cutting Edge- 'toepick!') was Untamed Heart starring Christian Slater and Marisa Tomei. The movie, which was filmed entirely in Minnesota, focuses on a young man with a heart defect and the waitress who falls for him.
(If I am being honest, I was a kid when I watched this and I was always under the impression he actually HAD a baboon heart. Reading the iMDB summary, it turns out that it was just something he told people? Who knew?)
MOVIE FILMED IN MINNESOTA
According to Wikipedia, the movie was originally supposed to be filmed in New Jersey but had to be moved for logistical reasons. One of the reasons the producers chose Minnesota was its large acting community, which allowed them to cast most of the movie with local actors.
In fact, 35 out of 40 roles in the film were played by Minnesotans!
MOVIE FILMED AT A NORTH STARS GAME
One of the most memorable scenes for me as a kid was when they went to a Minnesota North Stars game at the old Met Center. Slater's character ends up catching a hockey puck during the game, which I have always been insanely jealous of- movie or not!
Look at the ads in the background... it's like a time machine! Northwest Airlines! SuperAmerica! K-Mart! I remember those!
