Rock music has always, and will always have a special place in my heart. I was 13 when I started playing guitar and instantly fell in love with it. I grew up idolizing Van Halen, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, and Zeppelin.

Needless to say it puts a smile on my face when I see kids now a days doing the same thing I was when I was a wee lad. I’m always a little bit frightened about the musical zeitgeist considering most people now just use computers and pre-recorded beats to make their tunes.

Thankfully, there are still programs and classes out there that nurture youngsters who have a true desire to become a musician and not just hide behind the veil of a laptop. One such program is School of Rock. It’s a set of summer classes where experienced musicians help mentor younger players.

This summer’s program is coming to an end and that means that the students will be performing their annual concert soon. You can catch it at the Paramount Theatre in St. Cloud on August 9th. The show starts a 7 pm and you can get a ticket online now for $8 - $13.
