We have been hearing for quite awhile how Southwest Airlines is changing their seating to assigned seats this year.  That is a system that basically every airline already has, Southwest is just catching up with that system.  But, they are also implementing something else at the same time as this new system begins.

NEW POLICY GOES INTO AFFECT LATER THIS MONTH

Beginning on January 27th of this year, Southwest will now request that plus sized passengers purchase two seats of they are unable to sit in a regular coach seat with both arm rests down.  Either that, or purchase a first class seat - as those seats are larger anyway.

Under Southwest’s new policy, certain plus-size passengers will be required to secure an additional seat in advance if they cannot sit comfortably within a single seat’s armrests. The airline is not setting a specific weight limit or measurement. Instead, the decision is based on whether a passenger fits entirely within the seat without encroaching on neighboring space, a subjective standard that has raised concerns about inconsistency and potential embarrassment.

ARE YOU OUTRAGED? THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF GETTING A REFUND

When you hear this, I'm sure that some people are going to be outraged by this new policy.  But, as a person who has been seated next to someone like this, it's uncomfortable for everyone involved.

However, there is a caveat with this new policy, and it does make some sense.

Customers who purchase an extra seat in advance may receive a refund if the flight departs with empty seats. Complimentary extra seats may still be available at the airport, but only if space allows.

IF YOU ARE A PLUS SIZED PERSON WILL YOU CONTINUE TO FLY PLACES

With this new policy in place, which has been talked about for years, do you think it will deter passengers, or do you think that people will just go along with it?
