For the first time, Target is helping out teachers supply their classrooms and students.

This week (July 15-21), Target is giving teachers a 15% discount on school supplies including pens, pencils, crayons, markers, classroom storage and organization, tissues, hand sanitizer and more.

Teachers must simply visit Target.com/teacherprep to answer a few questions and receive their discount code, good for online or in-store purchases.

This comes as a small but earnest gesture towards teachers who have long -- we all know -- spent their own finances without reimbursement or compensation to supply their classrooms and their students.

According to a 2016 article by Time, teachers were shelling out an average of nearly $500 of their own money on school supplies with some paying as much as $1000.

In 2015, Huffington Post tweeted at teachers asking them how much they spent on school supplies and to share photos. The results were unbelievable.

St. Cloud's Salvation Army is taking school supplies donations -- supplies or checks -- as well as inviting the public to fill a backpack provided at the Salvation Army Location.
