The Longfellow Stalagmite: A 17-Foot Beacon of Winter Magic
THE LONGFELLOW STALAGMITE
What's called 'The Longfellow Stalagmite' stands approximately 17 feet tall, and was recently built in a south Minneapolis neighborhood, to bring something beautiful to the neighborhood to bring some joy to those who view it, in the middle of a dreary winter.

MEET NATE RYLANDER
Nate Rylander started his frozen water tower project near 42nd Avenue and 41st Street in South Minneapolis, with just a water hose, tripo,d and snow fence.
He then got a ladder and a bucket. With a trickle of water from the bucket that he adjusted every few hours over 4 days, he built this beautiful ice tower. What a great idea!
17 FEET TALL ICE TOWER
There's a reason the tower stands 17 feet tall. Nate said, "On the 5th night I brought it down to a small trickle, and I came out in the morning and it was frozen, so I couldn't turn it on again." He said the hose was literally inside the ice tower, and that he won't be able to use it until spring. "So that's what we get," Said Nate.
The beautiful ice tower is especially beautiful at night, as Nate was able to put LED lights inside of it before it froze over.
DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?
The ice tower has attracted a lot of visitors already, and that's all Nate wanted to do. He wanted to bring joy to his neighbors.
Nate says that 'imagination and creativity' can go a long way. You can see Nate's interview by clicking on the video below.
Have you ever tried to build something similar?
