The new trailer for The Morning Show — Apple’s glitzy, splashy entrance into the world of making its own original content — lays out what we can basically expect from the show. Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell play longtime morning news hosts, he gets fired (it’s not clear exactly why), and then Reese Witherspoon winds up in the running to become one of the show’s new hosts, while all the people involved in the show, both in front of and behind the camera fight for control.

Here’s the first full trailer for The Morning Show:

You couldn’t ask for a better cast than this (although it feels, at least from this trailer, like the conflict between the two female leads would make more sense if the up-and-coming reporter was played by someone much younger than Aniston; she and Witherspoon were born about seven years apart). And it seems like a juicy, fun premise for a Sorkin-esque showbiz dramedy. If this show was on a broadcast network, or Netflix, it’d be a slam dunk. But The Morning Show can only be seen on Apple’s upcoming streaming service, Apple TV+. And I do wonder: Will this and the handful of other shows Apple’s announce be enough to make people sign on? As good as The Morning Show looks, I honestly don’t know.

Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

What happens when the people you trust to tell the truth prove themselves to be dishonest? The Morning Show follows the free fall of an early morning newscast in the wake of a scandal, and its struggle to survive in an era when news arrives in the palm of your hand. The Morning Show stars Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon, Emmy winner Jennifer Aniston and Golden Globe winner Steve Carell in a high-stakes drama that pulls back the curtain on the morning news.

The Morning Show is coming this fall to Apple TV+.
