Remember Twiggy the water-skiing squirrel?  The original Twiggy dates back to 1978, and now I think we are on at least Twiggy the tenth?  ALL of them have been taught to waterski.  It's very adorable.

This past weekend, Twiggy was at the Mall of America, and someone took a video of their performance and it had a huge response.

And there have been so many other appearances of this famous squirrel. Twiggy has made appearances at so many festivals and events, even including an appearance on "America's Got Talent".  That's impressive for a little squirrel.  Well, there have been several little squirrels, but I think that is pretty impressive in itself.  How many people would be able to teach that many squirrels to waterski?

Here is the story regarding how that happened.

In November of 1997, Chuck Best had a heart attack and drowned while saving the life of his step father. Lou Ann canceled all shows currently booked for the winter 1998.  Due to her husband's passing, Lou Ann decided to make water safety an important part of Twiggy's act. She created a squirrel-sized life jacket for Twiggy to wear in her performances

Twiggy starts a new chapter in her legacy. Lou Ann’s son, Chuck Best Jr. has decided to take on the family business and continue Twiggy’s story! Chuck and his fiancé, Toni, have reimagined his parents’ show & together they have embarked on an all new, revamped, interactive and exciting show  for Twiggy! Twiggy is now the spokes animal for The National Safe Boating Council's "Wear It" Campaign promoting water safety all over the world!

Twiggy continues to perform for her fans all over the nation, and now is also the water safety spokes animal.  Good gig for a little squirrel.  I have a lot of squirrels in my yard. Maybe I could teach one or more of them to play fetch.  That seems so much easier than waterskiing.  Just sayin'

Twiggy and her family hope to be back at MOA, or at least Minnesota soon.
