Beware of Amazon Purchased Sunglasses to Watch Eclipse
If you purchased special sunglasses from Amazon to watch next week's solar eclipse, you may be in for a refund from Amazon.
Many different sellers on Amazon recently cashed in on sun glasses specifically marketed for watching the solar eclipse that will happen next Monday over the 12 noon hour. The problem is that there were a fair amount of these glasses that aren't approved as "safe" for watching the eclipse and could hurt your eyes if you use them. Because of this, Amazon is offering you a refund of these glasses and not making you return them.
According to GoMN, over the weekend Amazon began alerting customers about these glasses and offering the refund. Amazon released a statement:
Out of an abundance of caution, we have proactively reached out to customers and provided refunds for eclipse glasses that may not comply with industry standards.
Amazon has also gone as far as removing all seller pages that have unapproved product listed on it.
Proper eye wear is extremely important when viewing a solar eclipse, as your eyes can be burned instantly. An astronomers group has posted a reputable vendors list of solar filters and viewers, which will help guarantee you're buying something that's safe for looking directly at the eclipse.
Let's cross our fingers that we won't have a cloudy day in the St. Cloud area that keeps us from viewing the solar eclipse clearly!
