Who’s ready for a new batch of Charlie’s Angels?

The classic ’70s TV staple already inspired one film franchise (and a TV sequel or two). Now there’s another version of Charlie’s Angels headed to the screen, this one directed by and co-starring Elizabeth Banks. She plays Bosley to the team of Angels played by Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomi Scott.

Here’s the film’s first trailer:

And here is the official synopsis for nu-Charlie’s Angels:

In Banks’ bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally. With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere. The screenplay is by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn.

The original Angels series is before my time, but I am nostalgic for the first film series with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu; I was in college when they started coming out, and seeing the first one was one of my very first dates with my future wife. They’re also very much of their moment, though, in terms of the style and tone (and Matrix-y effects). So they could be due for an update from Banks and her excellent cast. Charlie’s Angels opens in theaters on November 15, 2019.
