Hey- Minnesota, You’re Probably Saying it Wrong

I have come to the conclusion that people talk like how they hear things.  And for the most part, it's generally incorrect.  And I also think that it mostly comes from people not reading enough. So your only point of reference is how you are hearing the word or phrase.

One of my biggest pet peeves (and I see this a lot) is when people write "we should OF done... ".  It's "we should HAVE done... (whatever it is)".  But I will give you that, it does sound like "should of" instead of "should have".  Especially if it's a contraction.  Then, when you add in the possibility of voice to text, it probably gets worse.

Apparently there are a lot of phrases that people say and they are just wrong.  Here are some of the best ones:

- For all intensive purposes. It's actually "for all INTENTS and Purposes"

-I could care less.  What you're actually saying is "I COULDN'T care less"

-Butt Naked.  It's actually supposed to be "Buck Naked" why?  I have no idea.

-Nip it in the butt.  It's supposed to be "Nip it in the BUD" like your trimming a plant or flower.

-Brother in laws.  UGH!!!  You have more than one brother, not more than one law.  It should be "BROTHERS in law"  Unless of course, it's possessive.  Then, yes, it would be "brother in law's".

Oh, and for the love of God, can people please learn not to leave the ends off of words.  Like "it's supposed to be" not "suppose" to be.  Also "I'm used to it" not "use" to it.  Thank you in advance!  Carry on!
