Minnesota TSA Detains Man Holding SPAM
ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPAMMY KIND
I wonder how many people get stopped for trying to pack SPAM on an airplane? We take our SPAM for granted here in Minnesota; but in other parts of the country, SPAM is a hot commodity.
Joel Libed was working as part of an Irish dance troupe that was on tour in Minnesota, and they made their first stop in Austin, Minnesota. Austin is where the SPAM museum is located.
TAKE THE SPAM TOUR
There was a group of 20 Irish Dancers that had the opportunity to tour the museum, and while they were there, one of the employees at the museum was working on the dance group's costumes. Joel had mentioned to her how much he enjoyed eating SPAM, because he was born in Hawaii, and SPAM is a big part of Hawaii's local cuisine.
The worker was kind enough to bring Joel a care package before he left; SPAM in all it's specialty flavors. There were about 12 cans of the various varieties of SPAM in his care package.
SPAM IN YOUR CARRY-ON?
Fast forward to flight time. Joel was on tour for a couple weeks and was carrying the SPAM around with him that entire time. His luggage was already overweight, so had to carry the SPAM in his carry-on on the plane.
As you can imagine, the TSA agent had to 'perform a quick test' on the products of SPAM before he could let Joel pass through the check-in, but thank goodness, they eventually did.
