The corona virus stay-home quarantine has led to a lot of creative, entertaining and ridiculous online trends and challenges, but one of the tastiest I've seen (and tried) is Dalgona coffee.

I'm not actually sure who originally started the idea (or if it's been around for longer than the past couple weeks), but the Dalgona coffee trend started on the social media platform Tik Tok and quickly exploded online. My wife -- who's had plenty of time at home on her hands -- decided to give it a try over the weekend and -- despite my skepticism -- it was really good!

Using a recipe from Delish.com, here's how she made it:

It's actually super simple to make Dalgona coffee! All you need is instant coffee, sugar, milk, a little hot water, a bowl and beater to mix them, and a glass to drink it in! Here are the ingredients for a serving of one (we doubled ours):

  • 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp. instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp. cold water
  • Ice, for serving
  • Milk, for serving

Step 2: Blend the Instant Coffee, Sugar and Water

In a medium bowl, combine sugar, coffee, and water. Vigorously whisk until mixture turns silky smooth and shiny, then continue whisking until it thickens and holds its lofty, foamy shape.

Fill a glass most of the way full with ice and milk.

Step Four: Top with Coffee Mixture and Serve

Dollop and swirl the whipped coffee mixture on top, mixing before drinking, if desired.

That's all there is to Dalgona Coffee! While I was initially shocked at how much sugar was required, it's really quite necessary, both for texture and to soften the bitterness of the coffee. It's definitely tasty, though, and I highly recommend!
