Not Bad Minnesota: The Nation’s 6th Greenest State
Our planet is over-populated and our resources are depleting. So it's more important than ever to start being more 'green'. Minnesota just got a great grade in being eco-friendly!
Ecologists have been trying to tell us for years that if we don't start working on replenishing the earth, it's basically going to die. With that, the United States started pushing states to work on eco-friendly initiatives to grow our natural resources again. We're recycling more than ever, and doing everything possible to make our trash reusable, which is great news.
Wallethub just released their 2018 findings of the greenest states in the country. In order to highlight the greenest states and call out those doing a poor job of caring for the environment, they compared each of the 50 states on 23 key metrics. They looked at a number of key pieces in each state, including LEED-certified buildings per capita, to share of energy consumption from renewable resources.
Minnesota didn't come 1st on this list, but it may come as no surprise that we were near the top of the list. We were the 6th best in the country for being 'green'!
Here are the states that were placed in the top 10:
- Vermont
- Oregon
- Massachusetts
- New York
- South Dakota
- Minnesota
- Connecticut
- New Hampshire
- California
- Rhode Island
It looks like the upper east coast is doing a LOT of things right, as a majority of the top states are located near each other.
Surprisingly, only Minnesota and South Dakota fell in the top 10. Our other neighboring states didn't do near as well. Wisconsin came in 14th, Iowa was 31st, and North Dakota was near the bottom at 47th.
Let's keep it going, and see if we can come in at #1 next year. It just takes a slight change to our mindset with simple things we do everyday.
