I have always felt like Central Minnesota is a really safe place to live, and even after seeing these numbers I still believe it is. I think we could be way worse off.

Only in Your State took the crime statistics from an FBI spread sheet, and calculated the violent and property crime rate per 100,000 people in cities with 5,000 people or more to determine the top 10 most dangerous cities in Minnesota.

Here are the top 10

1. Bemidji
2. Minneapolis
3. St. Paul
4. Duluth
5. St. Cloud
6. Waite Park
7. Spring Lake Park
8. West St. Paul
9. Brainerd
10. Virginia

As far as St. Cloud goes there are about 68,000 people, and based on the stats there were 384 violent crimes and 3,771 property crimes per 100,000 people.

Waite Park has about 7,500 people, and based on the statistics actually ranked #1 for property crimes in the state. Yikes.

In 2018 there were 262 violent crimes, 1 murder, 49 robberies, 2,575 property crimes, 297 burglaries and 189 motor vehicle thefts in St. Cloud.

In Waite Park there were 29 violent crimes, 4 robberies, 752 property crimes, 33 burglaries, and 3 motor vehicle thefts. The numbers are significantly lower than other towns on the chart, but remember that they were ranked based on population to number of crimes committed.

Even with two towns from the St. Cloud metro in the top 10, I still believe that this is a great area and community to live in and am proud to call it home. I say take these stats with a grain of salt, and do what we can to not commit crimes. That way we won't end up on this list in the future.
