A couple who were at the Brainerd Jaycee's Ice Fishing Extravaganza this past weekend are searching for a missing engagement ring.

Last week's snow storm that dropped more than 14 inches of snow in Central Minnesota is still causing havoc with Central Minnesota lakes. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON.

The combination of heavy wet snow on the ice last week and extreme cold weather this week is making ice conditions and ice fishing mobility tough. That according to Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News. Schmitt indicates the heavy snow in Central Minnesota last week is just sitting on the ice and isn't going anywhere.

The Art Shanty Project is returning to frozen Lake Harriet in Minneapolis once again in 2023.

The snow is no only challenging to drive on in Central Minnesota but it is creating some challenges for ice anglers. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says there is going to be water underneath the snow and on top of the ice.

Early last week some anglers on Red Lake needed to be rescued when strong winds opened a portion of the lake stranding those people. Glen Schmitt appeared on WJON with Lee Voss.

The recent cold and snowy weather isn't bad news for everyone. Ice fishing isn't far off now with temperatures consistently in the 20s and 30s over the past week and temps expected to drop to the teens for highs over the weekend and single digits expected overnight. The one thing I have learned about early ice fishing is that some lakes are very consistent producers and others are more hit and miss.

Ice conditions are still stable on most Central Minnesota lakes despite the stretch of 50s and 60 degree weather earlier this week. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON today. He says the local ice conditions have stabilized with 30 and 40 degree temperatures for much of this week and 30s and 40s forecasted for the weekend.
