Connections Were Made Saturday In Monticello At Community Event

This past Saturday was certainly a great fall Saturday in Central Minnesota. If you could have removed the gusty breeze that blew most of the day into the evening, it would have been nearly a perfect day for the fall. 

I hosted an on-location broadcast, we call them remotes for remote location broadcast, in Monticello at the Fleet Farm location on Chelsea Road. Fleet Farm has been hosting what they’re calling Octoberfest events on Saturdays to celebrate the changing of the season and of course offer opportunities to connect with their customers over the product they stock on a regular basis.  

This past Saturday the big attraction outside was their “Touch-A-Truck" event, where kids and adults alike could get an up close and personal look at some of the vehicles that move around us on a daily basis. And it certainly was a popular event. 

Trucks from the Monticello Fire Department, a CentraCare paramedic unit, the City of Monticello had a snowplow truck on hand as well as a 4 Door Freightliner Hauler. Each unit had the driver, or the driver and a passenger on hand to answer questions about the vehicle they had on display.  

There were several times adults without any children would make their way over to inspect the trucks on display. As one mother of a grown child told me “It was good for him to be able to talk to the driver and get to know about that as a career”. This young man was particularly drawn to one of the vehicles and is considering following up on that career as an option for him.  

It was likely extra work for those employees on the weekend, but I think it made an impact on some kids and some adults as well.  

The Octoberfest events continue the rest of the month at the Fleet Farm in Monticello, they will hold a pet adoption event this Saturday and on Saturday the 25th, your kids are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes and trick or treat at different stations around the store.
