If you listen carefully, you can hear “it” softly in the wind. “It” is the sound of summer slowly slipping away as we head directly for the first day of school. Teachers may or may not be ready to return to the classroom, but odds are a majority of kids are not.

They will be back into a rhythm of having to get up early, homework, and probably not staying up as late as they are now.

Parents are working toward getting all the supplies their kids will need along with new school clothes. Because kids want to look good going back to school and parents want that perfect first day of school picture to post on social media.

The BBB says posting information about your kids online could make them a target for identity thieves. Listing their age, school, grade and teacher could be enough information for scammers to be able to create a fake account in your child’s name.

Another way to protect your kids is by taking their picture in front of a neutral background which doesn’t have house number or other recognizable locations that could help those who don’t have good intentions discover where you live.

You are also advised to check your settings on your social media accounts regularly to make sure that you aren’t putting too much information, like a phone number or address where just anyone can find it.

They could piece together your information along with things they can learn from the pictures you post online to be able to use that information against you.

So, take those first day of school pictures, but make sure you take some precautions to make it hard on anyone who is just looking for a way to make you or your family their next victim.
