Since I was a kid, I have loved Root Beer. It’s one of the many things my wife and I have in common, we both enjoy it. Last week I wrote an article about three Root Beer brands that had deeply connected to Minnesota.

Since then, it was brought to my attention of a place in Minnesota that I needed to check out because of their Root Beer. It’s called Barneys Drive-In in Waseca, which is south of the Twin Cities, about 2 hours and some change from St. Cloud.

Barneys has been around for over 75 years and is known for the delicious food options like hamburgers and cheeseburgers, a variety of hot dogs, French fries, chicken, fish and ice cream.

The menu looks like so many locally owned restaurants that have been family favorites for years around this country.

But as good as Barney’s food is said to be, it’s their Root Beer that really has people talking. Barney’s Root Beer is created from a family recipe that will not be shared.

Their Root Beer is still brewed on site as it has been for years and is delivered to you the way Root Beer should be served, in a frosty cold mug.

Those who love Barney’s Root Beer talk about how the flavors combine a sweet and spicy taste that will stand out from any other Root Beer you’ve tried.

There’s a third element to Barney’s that people really enjoy and that’s the “Car Hop’s” are dressed in vintage uniforms the bring an element of the past into the present.

After learning about Barney’s Drive-In, I'm now trying to figure out when I can work in a road trip in my schedule to taste and see the Barney’s experience for myself.
