Habitat for Humanity Celebrates 100 Homes in 30 Years

ST. CLOUD -- Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Executive Director Rick Nelson says they also happened to be celebrating building their 100th home this year.

He says this past year they just completed their first Veteran's Building project, and are looking forward to working with more veterans in the future.

It's a real pleasure to be involved in that now, we have our second veterans build underway, we're still considering which family will become a partner for us and we're still open to receiving applications for that.  We're hoping this is the beginning of a series of veterans builds.

Nelson says they are also currently working on their fifth Tiger build home with the students at Tech High School.

We help them with their instruction and we get down and meet with them and help them move along the way, but this particular group of kids works at this and gets training in all the trades, they build a house from the ground up and then we move it out.

Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity serves Stearns, Benton, Sherburne and Wright counties.

Nelson says Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity will be holding their biggest fundraiser of the year on Thursday with their 9th annual breakfast. It's from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at the Kelly Inn in downtown St. Cloud.
