In our late-stage capitalist society, we're used to buying crap that breaks and then being stuck with it. The car I just bought in February has had the Check Engine light on more than it hasn't, has bricked itself twice...and the dealership gets off scott-free with the B.S. trope: "Sold As-Is". Makes a guy long for an off-grid cabin in the woods.

Costco's return policy was recently tested when a couple brought a mattress back because it was uncomfortable. They waited a minute, too.

A Couple Returned a Mattress to Costco...5 Years After They Bought It

As a Certified Fat Guy, my battle with mattresses is constant and never-winning. Our current mattress sags politely under me. We've only had it for a couple years.

This couple just might be my heroes, because I bought it from Costco.

A couple tested Costco's generous return policy by bringing a mattress back FIVE YEARS after they bought it. A TikToker - they're everywhere - posted a clip of the couple's successful return of the mattress.

They didn't have a receipt, but the store used the couple's membership card to find the purchase.

How Much Did They Get Back?

The full $499.99 that they paid for it...on a Costco gift card. They used that gift card towards the purchase of an upgraded mattress, and only had to pay an additional $300.

For the record: the mattress brand that they bought - Sealy - has a 10-year warranty. Costco has what most experts agree is the most generous return policy of all big-box retailers.

Don't mind me. I'mma rent a trailer to return a mattress, now...
