Do You Know About Minnesota’s Gas and Firewood Investigator’s?
Let me ask you a question, how much do you pay attention while you’re pumping gas? I don’t mean to how much gas you’re putting into your vehicle; I mean do you pay attention to other places on the gas pumps.

I was pumping gas last week, and for some reason, I noticed a sticker on the pumps I had never noticed before.
The official looking sticker from the Minnesota Commerce Department Weights and Measures said, “Tested and Found Correct 2024”. Tested and Found Correct from what I wondered?
Turns out, there’s a few things this sticker represents.
First, the quality and quantity of gas is tested. This helps you know that you are getting exactly what and how much of what you think you are buying. We’re all having to pay enough for gas as it is, this is the checks and balances system for us to be confident we’re getting what we’re paying for.
But the Minnesota Commerce Department Weights and Measures also does something else that is very important to protect us at the gas pumps. They also check the card readers to make sure that no dirtbag thief has placed a skimmer on the card reader to steal your card information.
It's sad that we need these folks checking each of these pumps for that reason, but at least they’re there to make it harder for us to be relieved of our hard-earned money.
The long arm of the Commerce Department’s Weights and Measures reaches beyond the gas pumps. Another interesting thing they do is regulate the labeling and sale of firewood.
I didn’t know we needed someone to do this, but you know what that means. Somewhere, someone has had dealings with an underhanded firewood dealer.
But that’s not all the Commerce Department Weights and Measures does, they also make sure the scales at the grocery store work correctly and they regulate labeling and packaging of the food we are served too.
Please pardon any silly sarcasm in this story, it goes to show how much I have taken for granted in the business I deal with, how about you?
So, the next time you’re shopping or pumping gas, look for the tested and approved sticker, and what year that sticker was placed there. If it’s been there a really long time, you might want to shop somewhere else.
