We are in such a short attention span society these days, it can be quite challenging to keep people's attention when you need them to focus for a longer period of time. But if you have small kids, there’s a way that you can help them build experience by focusing for longer periods of time while at the same time helping them be better ready for school and for life moving forward.

The Minnesota Department of Education has rolled out a plan for parents to spend time with their kids' reading.

The Reading to Ensure Academic Development (READ) Toolkit was sent out last Friday evening reminding folks that there is still some summer left and that’s a perfect time to get involved with their kids' reading. Inside the Toolkit parents will find easy, researched based literacy activities that will engage your children while at the same time building some strong family bonds.

This tool kit is part of the Reading to Ensure Academic Development (READ) Act that became a reality in 2023. The hope and design of this program is to have every child reading at or above their grade level when they start school.

But if you have a child or grandchild that is struggling with reading, this program could possibly be beneficial to them as well.

The Department of Education will be set up at the Minnesota State Fair and you can pick up more details on the Literacy Toolkit at their booth there, or you can simply go to their website. Here’s the link.
