If you have purchased an LG range in the last ten years, that may not be the case. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported late last week that LG slide in ranges, and free-standing ranges with front mounted knobs are the models in question.

As a matter of fact, there are 22 models of these ranges that fall under the wide net of the recall.

The problem with these LG ranges is the front mounted knobs can be accidentally contacted by people and their pets which can cause a fire.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been 28 fires reported. Five of those fires reported with these ranges have caused over $340,000 in damages and in three of those fires, pets inside the home were killed.

To be more concerning, there have been 86 reports that the front mounted knobs were contacted unintentionally.

These ranges were sold in many big box stores such as Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowes as well as smaller locally regionally based appliance dealers.

You may have purchased this range online at LG.com as well. The retail price ranged from $1,400 to around $2600.

The remedy seems to be a label that LG will send the owners which will remind them to use the “lock out” control feature which disengages the heating elements when the range is not in use.

Owners are still urged to make sure these knobs are turned to the off position before they leave home or before going to bed and to keep pets away from these knobs.
