Exchange Students Are Looking For Host Families in Minnesota
I saw a Facebook post recently asking Minnesota residents to consider becoming a “host family” for an exchange student. The post said that there was still a group of students that were hoping to have a family host them in the United States for the upcoming year.
The Council for Educational Travel USA (CETUSA) is a non-profit organization, and they coordinate putting students and families together. Part of their mission is to find families that have a compatible interest with each student.
For instance, if you have a child who plays soccer, they will try to find an exchange student who plays or has a soccer background so there will be a common bond already there when the student gets to your house.

One of the most important qualifications is that the student will have a safe and inviting atmosphere to be in while they are in the U.S.
Some of the other mandatory requirements are:
- A separate bed for the student to sleep in
- A separate study area for the student
- Provide transportation to and from events and activities
- Offer encouragement to the student who will be in a totally different part of the world
- Teach the student American traditions and possibly your family traditions too
Many families report that their family benefited from the firsthand knowledge of a different culture as well. Some of these families have kept in contact with their students even once the student gets out of school.
High School Students arrive covered by insurance, they get an allowance provided by their parents for school fees, toiletries, entertainment etc.
