Recently it’s been in the news that the State of Minnesota is strengthening their rules on drivers who are caught driving while impaired. The goal of course is to keep everyone safe and to encourage drivers to make better decisions before getting behind the wheel.

Most people automatically think about drinking and driving being when they hear about an impaired driver, but in Minnesota where marijuana laws are a lot looser than in many other states, the term “impaired” could mean those who are using marijuana, THC or CBD type products as well.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation took to social media showing off a digital message board reminding people that driving high is illegal as well. This may sound like it’s obvious, but from the fact that a message board tweet on “X” was sent out, I’m guessing it’s not so clear to some drivers.

Do You Know The Law?

For the record in Minnesota a driver is considered too drunk to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.08. Even if your number is below that point, you could still be too impaired to drive, everyone is different when it comes to their tolerance.

But when it comes to marijuana or related products, there is no limit that you have to be below to avoid being arrested. According to state law, if a driver is observed by a member of a law enforcement agency acting impaired and that can be verified, that driver can be charged with driving under the influence.

Medical and recreational marijuana is legal in the state for those over 21, but that still doesn't mean that you can get behind the wheel after partaking. And from the smell that has been ruminating in public lately, I’d say some people need to be reminded of that fact.
