This is a high traffic season. The weather is warmer, and people are flocking outside to enjoy the beauty of what Minnesota has to offer, or they're heading out of state to have a change of scenery. None the less, there is more traffic this time of year.

We are in the 100 Deadliest Days of the Year, and I wrote about that recently to offer a reminder.

This past weekend, law enforcement agencies picked a five-hour window and a certain section of Minnesota to try to crack down on dangerous driving.

Both the Minnesota Department of Safety and the Minnesota State Patrol took to their “X” account to address their efforts.

This past weekend the areas they focused on were in Hennepin, Anoka and Ramsey counties on I-35 West and I-694. The focus of this specific effort was to look for drivers who were going too fast but also to look for those driving in a dangerous manner.

This wasn’t something that Law Enforcement told us about in advance. If they had, some of those drivers who were stopped would have likely not been doing what they were on Sunday.

The point is that you don’t know when or where the law enforcement agencies around the state will band together and focus on an area that you are going to be driving in, so the best practice would be to drive each time as if the enforcement is taking place.

And this join efforts will likely happen during a time period when more people will be on the roads already.

I’ve noticed an increased presence since the 100 deadliest days started, but keep in mind you could find yourself in an area that is being pinpointed for a tremendous law enforcement presence for a short period of time.
