I don't typically sleep a lot. I will get a good 8 hours on the weekend, but usually, it's half that. I have not always been this way, but as I've gotten older, I seem to require less.

My wife, children, and co-workers would say that's a problem. And they're probably right. But sometimes there is a benefit staying up that late. One of those benefits happened last night.

It was in the form of a fantastic lightning storm south of St Cloud.

To watch nature's incredible, non-scripted movie, was like watching the gods battle it out on Mount Olympus, in person. It was non-stop and lasted for hours and hours. There was hardly a moment when some electrical discharge wasn't happening in the sky,  somewhere.

When I saw what was happening, I sprinted out the door. I didn't bother (or even think) to put shoes on. I just knew I had to take photos and video of it. Some of us really get off on this stuff.

Watching storms is a fond childhood memory of mine. It always reminds me of my mother shutting off all the lights in the house and just watching nature put on her show.

After it was all said and done, I got two hours of sleep, and my socks were soaking wet. But it was totally worth it.
