Another National Chain To Close Some Stores
There have been a rash of recent nationwide brand stores that have announced their plans to close some or all their stores this year. To say the last few years have been hard on everyone, including businesses is an understatement.

Another chain announced yesterday they would be closing some stores. Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos says that one percent of the companies' stores will be closed.
That includes 96 of their normal brick and mortar stores and 45 of the “Popshelf” stores, which target higher income earning customers. Over the last 10 years, you could hardly drive an distance without seeing a yellow and black Dollar General sign. Especially in rural communities. There would be nothing else around and then BAM, a Dollar General.
The company has not said which stores they are targeting to close as of yet, but those stores could be closing sooner rather than later according to MSN.com.
Those stores that were chosen were selected based on the sales of the store, what the future expectations for that store were at the end of 2024, the operating conditions of the store and other factors.
There have been some Dollar General stores that have had a difficult time hiring and keeping employees. I suppose that could factor into the operating conditions category, but the article didn’t specify that.
Just because these Dollar General stores are set to close, the company plans to open 575 more stores across the country and in Mexico.
This indicates that their business model of targeting consumers with lower costs is still important to shoppers who find themselves having to be more strategic where they spend their money.
There are reportedly over 190 Dollar General locations in Minnesota.
