No matter if you’re just watching how much money you’re spending or if you need a cooking utensil or foil pan for a family dinner, most of us are aware of the concept of Dollar Tree stores.

There was a time where everything in the store cost just a buck. There were some items that cost less, but for the most part everything was $1.

Then the powers that be decided that they needed to keep up with the increased costs of everything, so each item in the store got a bump to $1.25.

When the inflation rates soared, we saw a new phase of Dollar Tree where they added higher priced items that cost either $3 or $5 each. These were mainly things for the home or electronic type of items.

My wife and I were shopping in the Dollar Tree in Waite Park over the weekend getting some items for our upcoming vacation when I saw something I never thought I’d see in Dollar Tree.

It was an electronic price check machine!

When everything was a dollar, we just knew.

Then it dawned on me, we really are moving into a new phase of shopping at Dollar Tree stores. As I started to move around the store looking more closely at the prices, I noticed the varying degree of what things cost these days.

Hence the reason for the price checker, I guess.

A lot of the items at Dollar Tree don’t have price tags on them, but they’ll be in a section where the price is on the shelf, but as we all know, because an item makes it into the shopping cart, doesn’t mean it will make it to the checkout.

But most people aren’t like you and me because if we decide we’re not going to buy something that is in our cart, we will carry it back to the proper place in the store, right?

I could see where there could be some confusion on how much some of these items are at Dollar Tree these days. I’m sure the price checker makes it easier on their staff and the customers too.

But I couldn’t help but wonder, did they raise prices due to inflation or just to pay for the electronic price checkers?
